BOOK CLUB QUESTIONS: The Push

Welcome to our September 2024 book club questions for The Push by Ashley Audrain

  1. The story explores mental illness and trauma through three generations. What, if anything, could Blythe have done to stop Violet from turning out the way she did?
  2.  Did you think Violet was to blame for Elijah’s death?
  3.  After Sam’s died, did you think Violet pushed him?
  4.  In the closing chapters, Fox stated, ‘She wasn’t always easy. But she deserved more from you…And you deserved more from me.’ How much sympathy, if any, did you have for Fox throughout the story?
  5.  Nature vs nurture. Was Violet born evil, or did her circumstances make her turn out that way?
  6.  How did you find the rarely used second-person POV narrative? What other books have you read with this POV narrative?
  7.  “After the death of a child, few marriages survive,” Blythe and Fox were told. Who do you think was more at fault for the failure of their marriage?
  8.  What do you think happened to Jet? Did this cliffhanger spoil the ending of the book for you?
