BOOK CLUB QUESTIONS: In the Blink of An Eye

Welcome to our book club questions for In The Blink of An Eye by Jo Callaghan

  1. What are your thoughts on AI in general?
  2. What problems do you foresee in using AI in the police force?
  3. To what extent did you think Lock would help solve the two cases?
  4. What did you think of Kat referring to Lock as ‘It’ rather than ‘He.’?
  5. “Because I wanted to… expose the truth about AI… They can’t make the judgements that only professional, experienced people can and should make.” Can you envision a future where AI is capable of making these kinds of judgements?
  6. What is your view of Gerard Walters sacrificing his child for the greater good?
  7. Flexible working allows Browne to raise a child on her own and still be part of the team. Do you think Kat was right to promise this when Hassan, who has a sister with problems, wasn’t offered the same?
  8. Lock references Casablanca at the end and the implications reveal Lock has made a joke. Do you think in the future, AI will become more human the more it adapts and that in turn making it just as prejudiced?
  9. Lock believed Kat when her own team didn’t. Do you think this was because Lock puts facts before emotions or because he had grown close to Kat?
  10. How do you feel about Hassan being part of the future team when he cared more about his ambitions than his boss?
