BOOK CLUB QUESTIONS: In the Blink of An Eye
March 31, 2024Welcome to our book club questions for In The Blink of An Eye by Jo Callaghan
- What are your thoughts on AI in general?
- What problems do you foresee in using AI in the police force?
- To what extent did you think Lock would help solve the two cases?
- What did you think of Kat referring to Lock as ‘It’ rather than ‘He.’?
- “Because I wanted to… expose the truth about AI… They can’t make the judgements that only professional, experienced people can and should make.” Can you envision a future where AI is capable of making these kinds of judgements?
- What is your view of Gerard Walters sacrificing his child for the greater good?
- Flexible working allows Browne to raise a child on her own and still be part of the team. Do you think Kat was right to promise this when Hassan, who has a sister with problems, wasn’t offered the same?
- Lock references Casablanca at the end and the implications reveal Lock has made a joke. Do you think in the future, AI will become more human the more it adapts and that in turn making it just as prejudiced?
- Lock believed Kat when her own team didn’t. Do you think this was because Lock puts facts before emotions or because he had grown close to Kat?
- How do you feel about Hassan being part of the future team when he cared more about his ambitions than his boss?
